Pello Bilbao has given Spanish cycling its first Tour de France stage win in five years. The Basque rider from Bahrain - Victorious achieved an emotional triumph after successfully completing a breakaway. In addition, the victory allowed him to move up several places in the standings.
After arriving at the finish line in first place, Pello was "mugged" by the Spanish radio stations and, before speaking on the podium, he declared that his only goal for the day was to win and that he was not thinking about the overall. Of course, he had a special reminder for his former teammate Gino Mäder:
"It was a full day from start to finish, I was in the breakaway, I didn't care about the general classification, I only thought about winning this stage, thank you very much to the team and to Gino for that inspiration."
