Patrick Lefevere was at an Anderlecht game with Remco Evenepoel, his wife and father yesterday when news broke out of a possible merger between
Jumbo-Visma and
Soudal - Quick-Step. So far, he's refused to give any insight on the news.
There he refused to comment to Sporza. "If you want to follow WielerFlits, do so. Make of it what you will. No comment, sorry," he said when asked for comments on the report that has been put out this Sunday by the Dutch outlet. Lefevere would have a very big role in this, being the CEO of the company managing the team, and being the public head of the team.
There had been rumours of a possible merger with INEOS Grenadiers earlier in the year, but those had been vastly mentioned as vague rumours. This time around not as much, as Jumbo-Visma still do not have financial certainty to the 2025 season. This would have a huge impact in men's cycling and has for the past hours been the most hotly debated topic, and is set to be.
Both from within Jumbo-Visma and Soudal - Quick-Step, the management have said they would not be responding to rumours, whilst it is also reported that riders from both teams were not aware of the story brewing in the background.
