Eschborn-Frankfurt's former winner (2019), Pascal Ackermann, will be extremely motivated to raise his hands in Frankfurt in front of his home audience.
Ackermann had a rollecoaster of a season so far in 2023, as he continues his quest to become a respected classics rider. That includes 2 podium finishes in smaller races and a result he maybe values even more - 11th spot at Gent-Wevelgem.
Most teams, including UAE Team Emirates, will be looking to play for a bunch sprint, but if anyone decides to start the fireworks early on, we might be up to an epic battle.
But he's certainly the only card UAE Team Emirates can play with in a bunch sprint. Marc Hirschi may quickly become the team's leader if the race gets very selective on the double Feldberg pass. We also shouldn't underestimate chances of Matteo Trentin, who's shown good legs last month.
