Nairo Quintana has decided to travel to Europe to try to unblock the current situation situation. He tested positive for tramadol in the last Tour de France and, although he served his sanction, no European team has yet wanted to sign him for 2023.
At the press conference in which he announced that he was not going to stop fighting, he announced that he was going to travel to Europe to meet with some teams. Now, as reported by El Tiempo, it seems that he also intends to meet with the big international cycling organizations to try to get them to open their doors for him again.
So Nairo could meet with the UCI, the MPPC (the Movement for Credible Cycling, which recently criticized him) and ASO (the organizer of the Tour de France, the Vuelta a España and many other large races in the calendar).
Gianni Bugno, president of the Professional Cyclists' Association, which, it must be said, has been doing almost nothing for its members for years, told El Tiempo that Nairo did not comply with the rules and that it will be difficult for him to convince the UCI.
What Nairo Quintana has made clear is that, contrary to what his colleague Miguel Angel Lopez has done, he will not return to Colombian cycling. So in the coming days we will see whether or not he finds an opportunity in Europe to race at the highest level.
