Mauri Vansevenant won the last and the most difficult stage of Tour of Oman. The Soudal-Quick-Step rider was the best climbing the Jabal Al Akhdhar (also known as Green Mountain) that has 5.7 km at 10%. Mauri followed Matteo Jorgenson attack on the last 300 meters and counter with one of his own that granted him the stage.
5 riders went a escape along the majority of the stage, being caught around 4 kilometres to the end. In the beggining of the Green Mountain Intermarché-Circus-Wanty set the pace, reducing a lot of the peloton into the group of general classification favourites.

On the last 2 km Rein Taaramae(Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) launched a powerful attack only followed by race leader Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar team), Mauri Vansevenant( Soudal-Quick-Step) and Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R Citroën Team). Latter Taaramae was dropped and the other 3 were the strongest, fighting for the stage and GC win.
In the end Mauri Vansevenant managed to beat on an uphill sprint Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar Team) and Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R Citroën Team) who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Despite Vansevenant stage win, race leader Matteo Jorgenson controlled the situation well and secure his overall classification win, becoming the first ever stage race overall victory for the young North-American of Movistar Team.
