Continuing his preparation for
Liege-Bastogne-Liege next weekend,
Mathieu van der Poel has been joined in the Spanish sun by a number of his Dutch compatriots for a training ride.
Having completed 90km on Monday, straight after a quiet Amstel Gold Race performance, van der Poel has taken another step towards the upcoming monument with a 149km ride, tackled in 4 hours and 39 minutes and alongside his regular training companion,
Freddy Ovett, there was also a group of familiar faces and a variety of World Tour shirts.
Alongside Mathieu van der Poel's Alpecin-Deceuninck Rainbow Jersey, the jerseys of
Olav Kooij and Team Visma | Lease a Bike,
Nils Eekhoff and Team dsm-firmenich PostNL,
Daan Hoole and Lidl-Trek,
Elmar Reinders and Team Jayco AlUla, plus the traditional Alpecin-Deceuninck jersey through
Ramon Sinkeldam as seen on Strava.
Interesting choice of training
Always surprised how slow these guys ride between races, in theory that means a lot of others could join them on these rides. I wonder how they feel about that and how they’d deal with telling you you’re not welcome?
There's a guy named Artem Shcherbyna who often rides with pros who are training in Spain. It's not easy keeping up with them, even when they're going slow. Check out his YouTube channel, it's very interesting.
Thanks, I sometimes hook up with one or another solitary pros (only one is currently world pro level) when they ride alone in my neck of the woods (I have several) but obviously if you’d live close to Calpe, Girona, Andorra or on Mallorca you’d have far more possibilities.
