Martin Svrcek becomes the Cyclist of the Year in Slovakia to end Peter Sagan's streak of 13 consecutive triumphs

It is no news when Peter Sagan wins awards. In fact, he has won Cyclist of the Year in Slovakia 13 times in a row, but that record streak is not going to be extended as Martin Svrcek puts an end to Sagan's dominance.

Svrcek has joined the Belgian team Soudal - Quick-Step in the second half of 2022, but has only really showed himself in the spotlight at this year's U23 World Championships in Glasgow.

The 20-year-old Slovak rode an impressive and attackive race and his efforts landed him in the front group from which, he sprinted to bronze medal, losing to another talent António Morgado and behind the sole winner Axel Laurance.
