Mark Cavendish is under pressure to perform and take big wins as the Tour de France approaches and in Milano - Torino he will have the opportunity to boost his chances significantly.
Cavendish has started off the season well with a win at the Tour of Oman and the UAE Tour despite not having the best leadout, however things turned south at Tirreno-Adriatico where he was unable to contest any sprint despite having Kasper Asgreen and Davide Ballerini in disposal and in form. With the Grand Tours drawing near, he will have to prove himself and the win should be his only ambition for the Italian race, this year designed for the sprinters.
He will have the support of leadout expert Michael Morkov which should give him good chances. The race shouldn't present any serious challenge for the sprinters, and the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team should work towards the Briton who will have the likes of Alexander Kristoff, Nacer Bouhanni and Peter Sagan as challengers.
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team for Milano - Torino: Mark Cavendish; Rémi Cavagna; Mattia Cattaneo; Dries Devenyns; Michael Morkov; Pieter Serry and Louis Vervaeke.
