BORA - hansgrohe rider Marco Haller has revealed just how close he came to disaster whilst on a training ride in his native Austria.
Luckily escaping a freak accident, Haller reveals how an incident on a single-lane road in Austria could have ended a lot worse. "A pickup stopped in front of oncoming traffic," he explains to Kleine Zeitung. "Suddenly the white reversing lights came on. At the last minute, I managed to get off the pedals with my shoes."
It's incredibly lucky for Haller that he did indeed manage to unclip as just moments later the pickup truck drove right over the 32-year-old's expensive, specialized bike, squashing it. "At first the driver thought he had just hit a branch," Haller recalls.
"But the bad thing is that something like that doesn't have to happen because of too great a risk, because I didn't take it now," he continues. "Imagine what happens in the city at a traffic light and there is a child on the bike," Haller concludes.
