The Vuelta a España is considering returning to the Balearic Islands, specifically the idyllic island of Mallorca, as part of its 2026 edition. According to reports in the Mallorcan newspaper Última Hora, Mallorca is eager to host the exciting start of this prestigious cycling competition.
The impetus behind this idea has gained momentum with the announcement that the Consell de Mallorca intends to present a motion in plenary on this possibility. If this proposal is well received and moves forward, it is expected to materialize in a meeting with the organizers of La Vuelta during the next edition of Fitur in January 2024.
The return of La Vuelta to the Balearic Islands would be a reunion after 28 years since its passage through Mallorca. This time, the route would include an online stage and the long-awaited individual time trial in Alcudia, where in the past we saw the victory of Abraham Olano. This change would also mark a significant transition in the grand departures of the competition, following Lisbon, which will host the event in 2024, and Monaco, a strong candidate to host the grand departure in 2025.
