The first bunch sprint of the Tour de France Femmes saw Team SD Worx come to the front and conquer the stage as European Champion Lorena Wiebes has the best sprint towards the finish line.
The hilly day saw some action throughout the day but there wasn't at any point a consolidated breakaway building a large gap. Julie van de Velde attacked with 59 kilometers to go and emerged off the front for the latter part of the stage.
A move that looked seemingly innocent at first, as there was plenty firepower in the peloton, it later led to a headache. The gap came down slowly and in the final meters the Belgian rider held on in the front of the race quite well, entering the final kilometer still with a meaningful gap.
It looked like it could go for Van de Velde, but the leadouts cranked up the pace significantly in the final 500 meters and made the catch. Lotte Kopecky led out the sprint for Lorena Wiebes and SD Worx wrapped up the job with the stage win. Kopecky herself still finished third despite her effort, Marianne Vos sprinted to second place on the day.
