The second stage of the Tour de France Femmes saw a major crash caused by Australian rider Nicole Frain. German rider Laura Sussemilch was one of the victims of the crash.
She suffered major injuries from the crash and was taken to hospital. There the doctors diagnosed two broken cervical vertebrae. "She will now have to wear a neck brace for a while. The fractures are stable, and she hopes to return to Germany soon," her team Plantur Pura announced on social media.
Subemilch was also involved in the crash in the first stage, but she did not sustain any significant injury that day. She will now focus on recovering from her injuries. She held 138th position in GC, 5 minutes and 48 seconds behind overall leader Marianne Vos.
