Nicole Frain (Parkhotel Valkenburg) is being heavily criticized for the crash she caused in the second stage of the
Tour de France Femmes. Her crash caused
Marta Cavalli some major skull injuries and forced her to leave the tour.
At 25 kilometers from the finish, Frain approached as a trailing rider. While everyone around her applied the brakes, Frain ran through the peloton and caused a domino effect that involved some major riders like Cavalli and Amanda Spratt.
The Australian rider has now come forward to apologize for her actions. "I thought I was going to make it through. And then there was a rider right in front and, yeah, you’ve probably seen the replay," Frain told Eurosport.
She went on to explain how the crash happened. “I thought I saw a hole, but I couldn't pass it. I am a bit disappointed. I thought I could go through it. It was fast, so I didn't miss the crash.” She regrets her actions "Naturally, this was never my intention, and I am sorry for those involved. I am sore as well and will monitor how I feel. I'm lucky I could get back on my bike,” said Frain.
The rider later told bici that she personally went to apologize to Marta Cavall and some other riders. “I won't tell you what we said to each other, I prefer it to remain reserved, but of course, I apologized to them and to her,” concluded Frain.
