There were concerns that
Filippo Ganna would come in to the Tour de France with low form. After a brilliant spring, the INEOS Grenadiers rider returned to racing at the Baloise Belgium Tour but didn't show his best form and was beaten by Ethan Hayter in the time-trial; however today some worries have been layed to rest as he won the Italian time-trial
national championships.
It was also a convincing victory as he beat Belgium Tour winner
Filippo Baroncini by a whole 34 seconds in the 28-kilometer long route. There were a lot of strong specialists at the start but Ganna has been able to win for the first time since Tirreno-Adriatico this Thursday.
Mattia Cattaneo completed the podium alongside his compatriots.
Meanwhile other national championships against the clock have been crowned recently such as Yevegniy Fedorov in Kazkhstan and
Toms Skujins in Latvia - whilst
Zoe Bäckstedt has won the women's British title.
