Jonathan Milan looks back at his Giro: "Of course I would have liked to convert a few Giro podiums into victories"

After cycling in the jersey of Bahrain Victorious for three years, Jonathan Milan will move to Lidl-Trek next season, the American WorldTour brigade that is making good progress in terms of transfers. In de Leiderstrui spoke with Milan at the beginning of September, who indicated that he looks back on 2023 with great satisfaction.

Milan really gained a lot of attention in the Giro d'Italia, where he brought home the Maglia Ciclamino for best sprinter, winning a stage and coming second on four occasions. "When I think back to last season, I get quite happy," says the Italian.

"Of course I would have liked to convert a few Giro podiums into victories. But all in all, I certainly can't complain, especially because I was there right from the start of the season," he said, referring to his early victory in Saudi Arabia in February.

"In the Giro I was actually surprised about my own level," he continues his story about his debut in a grand tour. "I initially went there to help the team. And I was 100 percent motivated for that. Ultimately, I was soon given the opportunity to pursue my own success. Of course I grabbed that opportunity with both hands. And with success, which was simply fantastic," says the cheerful rider. 'During the rest of the Giro I just looked at what could happen day by day. I quickly noticed that my teammates were willing to work hard for me. So I certainly have to thank them in that context," he says sympathetically.
