Jai Hindley's start into Saturday's mountain test was far from ideal. The Australian hit the deck in a mass crash with just 6 km into the stage. While many other riders were forced to abandon, the Bora-hansgrohe rider got away with just scratches.
"After the crash I was in pain throughout the day. I don’t think it is too serious, perhaps more some muscular issue. I suffered a lot, especially out of the saddle. Of course, it’s far from ideal on a day like this, but that’s bike racing. Given the circumstances I think I did ok and I am quite happy with how I went. Now I have to see how I can recover for tomorrow," said Hindley in press release.
In the end, Hindley crossed the line 1:46 behind stage winner Carlos Rodríguez, who now moves the Australian into fourth overall by just one second.
