In one of the traditional end-of-season criteriums, Chris Froome and a host of other Tour de France stars have been in Singapore this weekend competing at the Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium.
The race was won by Jasper Philipsen in a sprint ahead of Mark Cavendish and Tadej Pogacar, but for Froome their was much more important things than success on the road. “I think it’s about showcasing what the sport has to offer, showcasing the Tour de France, inspiring the next generation of young cyclists over here in Singapore,” said the four-time Tour winner in quotes collected by Cycling News.
Having grown up in Kenya, Froome is literal proof that talent can take you through to the very top, no matter your upbringing. “Events like this are really important. It’s where dreams are born," the Israel - Premier Tech rider continues.
"I just imagine, obviously growing up in Africa, if I had all the Tour de France stars coming over to my country, or where I’d grown up, it would be amazing to see them," he concludes. "You see all the kids here with stars in their eyes, they are dreaming about it, so it’s really cool to see.”
