As Jumbo-Visma continue to prove they are considered the premiere team in the cycling world with a one-two finish at Gent Wevelgem, Nathan van Hooydonck has revealed his pride at the team's success.
"When Wout started, I still doubted whether someone would be able to follow him, he went much too fast," van Hooydonck reveals to WielerFlits. "Moreover, it still seemed too far from the finish line to me at the time. I thought: where are those men driving to? Well, apparently to Wevelgem."
With Christophe Laporte riding over the line as winner and Wout van Aert just behind in second it was the kind of day that Jumbo-Visma could have only dreamed of and van Hooydonck realises these moments need to be savoured.
"It's great that everyone rides so well, so I can live with the fact that I haven't won yet," he jokes. “My form is good, but that goes for everyone in the team: Olav Kooij for example, who is still super young and should be a sprinter, but he was just there after the last Kemmelberg."
