Elisa Longo Borghini has announced that her 2023 campaign has reached it's end after a spell of disappointment battling injuries and illness.
"My 2023 season has come to its end.Well, it has been complicated year, with too many setbacks and a lot of obstacles on my way," the Lidl-Trek star writes on her official Instagram account. "I felt I’ve never really reached my full 100%.vIt was definitely a hard time for me, but I was anyway able to enjoy some great moments with my Team. In every races I fought hard, always aiming and looking for the victory. And well, despite the difficulties, I was anyway able to leave my mark."
It wasn't a year totally without success for the Italian as the 31-year-old took general classification victory at the UAE Tour, a stage of the Giro d'Italia Donne and a pair of victories at the Italian National Championships on the road and in the time-trial.
"It was like being on a rollercoaster, with too many downs but also some very high peaks," she concludes, summarising her year. "Now it's time leave everything behind... time for reset, rest and restart, stronger than before!"
