BORA - hansgrohe look set to benefit from the added financial benefit of global drinks giant, Red Bull with the company acquiring a 51% stake in the cycling team. Although the deal isn't fully completed just yet, there is excitement within the team.
“We need confirmation from the government, but it could be a very good move strategically,” BORA - hansgrohe boss Ralph Denk revealed to In de Leiderstrui. "We can continue to grow. The sport has changed considerably in recent years, with increasingly higher budgets. We have to respond to that, and I want to run a team that is competitive. That could be the next step for us and I hope so, but for that we have to wait until the final confirmation."
If Red Bull's influence on their Formula 1 team is anything to go by, success would seem inevitable for BORA - hansgrohe in the coming years. "I have known Red Bull for the past few years with great projects and a good partnership," Denk continues. "But we have to wait for it. The evolution of the sport in general is that Red Bull can make the difference, but it is far too early to talk about it in concrete terms."
Although having Red Bull on board would considerably boost the team's finances, their current structure is already competitive as shown by the signing of Primoz Roglic over the transfer window. "It seems fantastic to me too," the Slovenian adds with a trademark cheeky smile. "Red Bull gives you wings!"
