Tom Pidcock crashed twice and got injured at Tirreno-Adriatico. This was a pebble in the shoe for INEOS Grenadiers who had the Briton planned to be the leader for Milano-Sanremo, but in his absence several riders will have freedom, including Filippo Ganna.
The Italian has finished second at both the Vuelta a San Juan and the Volta ao Algarve this year and has his climbing legs sharp. Sanremo is a race that doesn't ordinarily suit a pure time-trialist, but Ganna being a powerhouse will suit him very well on the climb to the Poggio where he should be able to stay in sight of the best.

The Italian has recently won the opening time-trial of Tirreno-Adriatico, showing strong form. He will be one of several options for INEOS, who have 2017 winner Michal Kwiatkowski and Jhonatan Narváez as possible outsiders who can do well in the climbs, as is youngster Magnus Sheffield.
The lineup is then completed by a mix of youth and experience, with Luke Rower, Ben Swift and Kim Heiduk looking to play a support role for their leaders at La Primavera.
