As the 2023 Tour de France enters the Pyrenees for the first time on only stage 5 of the race, French favourite, Julian Alaphilippe is targeting an impressive performance.
"I'm really motivated today, I hope I have good legs," said the 31-year-old Soudal - Quick-Step star in his post-stage interview prior to the start of the fifth stage. "The start of the stage is OK for a big fight. Let's see if UAE Team Emirates is willing to lose the Maillot Jaune."
The first big mountain stage of the race, there is expected to be a fierce battle in the opening portion of the stage just to get into the breakaway. Alaphilippe, a former two-time World Champion is keen to one of those lucky riders that manage to snap the elastic.
