The stage 16 individual time-trial wasn't an awful effort from the INEOS Grenadiers Carlos Rodriguez, finishing 12th on the stage. Sadly for him though, following the stage the Spaniard no longer sits on the podium of the 2023 Tour de France.
At just five seconds behind Adam Yates, the man who currently holds the third spot, it's still all to play for and Rodriguez is planning to leave it all on the line to achieve his goal. “It's the queen stage. It will be very tough and there will be big differences," says Rodriguez. "Tadej Pogacar will be burned, I'm sure. If I have good legs, I will certainly attack."
Referencing the time-trial, the 22-year-old confesses he wasn't totally happy with his performance. “At the start of the time trial I still felt good, but the last stretch to the finish just kept taking. I lost time there,” he says in conversation with the Spanish Esciclismo.
“I now have to mentally reset myself. It wasn't a really good day, but I didn't lose much time either. That is positive,” continues Rodriguez. “It is now a matter of recovering, but I am looking forward to Wednesday's stage."
