"I won my first GC two weeks ago and now my first time trial in a WorldTour race, it's been a good month" - Brandon McNulty continues impressive start to 2024 at UAE Tour

Brandon McNulty is the new leader of the UAE Tour after winning the 12 km individual time trial finishing in Al Hudayriyat Island ahead of his UAE Team Emirates teammates Jay Vine and Mikkel Bjerg.

The American rider, who had to wait 2 hours in the hot seat for his victory to be confirmed, given his early start time, was understandably delighted. "We went out early because we saw that the wind was going to be less damaging at the start and we put our three best guys at the start (they didn't go out in reverse order of the standings, but one rider per team, so they could choose the order ed.)," McNulty explained post-stage.

"Personally it went well, I had a good speed during the whole time trial and obviously I have to be satisfied because I won," continues the American. "The team put a lot of effort into the bike set up for the time trial so it's great news for everyone."

This also validates the fact that he is in great form at the moment. "I won my first GC two weeks ago (the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana ed.) and now my first time trial in a WorldTour event, it's been a good month."

On the chances of winning the general classification he commented: "We are in a good position, the climb to Jebel Jais is very hard, we have Adam Yates who is one of the best climbers well positioned, so we'll see, we have a good chance."
