The afternoon of Tuesday, February 6, will remain in the memory of a group of cyclists riding along the Cortijo Campanillas road, in Malaga, when they came across an unusual discovery: a boa constrictor imperator snake of considerable dimensions, apparently abandoned in the nearby undergrowth.
As reported by Europa Press, there was obvious initial astonishment given the imposing presence of this reptile, which was between the road and some trees, immersed in a state of lethargy. Quickly, aware of the potential danger and the need for professional assistance, the cyclists contacted the local authorities through the Campanillas District Police Headquarters.
The quick response of the Malaga Local Police was crucial. Once on site, the agents confirmed the presence of the reptile and, with the collaboration of a citizen expert in pest control, proceeded to capture and secure it in a cardboard box to prevent any escape.
Transferred to the police facilities, the snake was evaluated by the Police Force's Nature Protection Group (Gruprona). The inspection revealed that it was a female boa constrictor, reaching an impressive length of 2.3m, with the possibility of additional growth.
The fate of this exotic fauna specimen was not forgotten. The Malaga Municipal Animal Protection Center (Cepam) became its new temporary home, from where efforts are being coordinated for its transfer to a shelter specialized in exotic species, which has shown interest in taking it in.
