Kim Le Court marked her return to racing in sensational style earlier today, taking a hard fought win on the opening stage of the Tour of Britain Women after a long-range move and a perfectly timed sprint finish.
The Mauritian national champion, racing for AG Insurance – Soudal, attacked on Lingburn’s Bank, a 2.3km climb averaging 5.6%, and was joined by Olympic champion Kristen Faulkner (EF Education–Oatly). The pair collaborated well over the final stretch of the stage, holding off the chasing peloton all the way to the line.
Wearing her national colours, Le Court surged past Faulkner in the final metres to claim the stage win, while pre-race favourite Lorena Wiebes settled for third after leading the group behind.
Speaking in a team press release after the stage, Le Court said, “I am very happy, not just with this victory, but also with being back here. We came into this stage with a plan and executed it perfectly. I attacked at kilometre 44, had Kirsten come with me, and we managed to hold off the chasers, both of us being strong engines. It was pretty close at the finish, but I am delighted I could pull it off.”
Le Court’s victory continues a stellar 2025 season that already includes her win at Liège–Bastogne–Liège earlier this spring. Sunday's win adds further momentum as AG Insurance – Soudal target more success in the stages to come.
“I now look forward to the next stages, where we want to fight for some more good results,” Le Court concluded.
