"I regret that it turned out this way" - Lotto Dstny boss open to reconciliation with Caleb Ewan

The story of Caleb Ewan and Lotto Dstny's relationship has been a troubled one in recent months. As the 2023 season nears its conclusion however, could a reconciliation be on the cards?

“My phone is always on and if I get a message from Caleb, I will call back immediately. I have contact with his agent almost every day," Lotto Dstny CEO Stéphane Heulot has told Het Laatste Nieuws. Ever since the boss publicly criticised Ewan for abandoning the Tour de France, the duo's relationship has become strained with verbal media sparring coming from both parties.

"I don't have a problem with Caleb either, and I regret that it turned out this way. Maybe I should have expressed certain things better internally than in the media," Heulot admits. "Caleb has talent, but right now it's not showing. Is that partly our responsibility? Possibly, but we really tried everything to help him."

So where do they go from here? “We are now looking at what is best for him and our team. If the two cannot be identified, we must look for another solution," Heulot concludes. "To date, no other solution has presented itself. Caleb has a good contract with us. A contract that we respect, if he wants to stay with us.”
