Back during the
Jumbo-Visma days, it was often Primoz Roglic guiding the newcoming talent as they took their first steps with the Dutch formation. However with the Slovenian's depart, the team which is now called Visma | Lease a Bike had to look for another leader in the teambus. And according to
Ben Tulett, they found their role model in the two-time Tour de France champion
Jonas Vingegaard.
"I always do my best to be friendly to new people within the team," Vingegaard explains to WielerFlits. "I now have to teach the young guys a bit more, instead of doing it myself. But if you had asked me two years ago if this would suit me, I would have said 'no'. I have really grown in being a mentor."
The two-time Tour winner is also aware of his place within Visma | Lease a Bike. "Teaching the tricks of the trade to others is something I can do, even though I thought this was not the case. I like doing it too, I must say. Because I'm not here forever. There are a lot of young guys within our team that I can help. Cian Uijtdebroeks is a great talent. He fits in very well with the team. Cian is very professional and extremely eager to learn. You can feel everything that he has the need to be better than yesterday. Above all, he is a very nice guy."
However, Vingegaard expects another name to struck this year. "Ben Tulett, I think. That's a super strong guy, who is also really eager. Ben is going to do very well this year."
"He is a role model for me," the Brit himself is happy with the compliment from his leader. "It's nice to hear something like that from a Tour winner. That's really cool. I enjoy the moments I spend with him and the team. Those are really wonderful experiences for me."
