When a spectator step up more than one meter up the road and don’t move when the peleton arrive than you better stay home. You have no respect for the riders. I hope you feel really guilty! I have to leave @LeTour because of you #TDF2023
Steff Cras has been riding the Tour de France of his life. Above expectations, performances in the mountains brought the 27-year-old Belgian to 13th overall after just a week of racing. However, that's the end of the story for Cras who had to abandon in the final of stage 8 after a hard crash.
On Twitter, Cras himself reveals the true circumstances of the fall. "If you step forward a meter as a spectator and do not want to move when the peloton comes, then you better stay at home."
"You have no respect for the riders," Cras addresses the spectator directly. "I hope you feel very guilty! Because of you I have to leave the Tour!"
The TotalEnergies rider was immediately taken to hospital, his team gave a medical update two hours after the finish: "Steff has several bruises on his elbow and hip, but fortunately no fractures."
