Marianne Vos rode to her second stage win today at Rosheim at the Tour de France Femmes, capitalizing on strong team tactics and a strong sprint to take what was a meaningful win whilst in the yellow jersey.
"This is fantastic. I think I don't quite realise it yet. We wanted to go for the stage win today and with Anna in the breakaway, the situation was in our favour. The peloton rode hard to close the gap and on the Cote de Boetsch, there were several attacks," Vos described at the end of the race. "But the team kept me in the front and ensured I stayed out of the wind. All credits to them."
Today's entry in the Vosges offered a hilly profile to the riders, and Jumbo-Visma tried out different tactics to go for the win. However, with the peloton compact into the final kilometers, Vos found herself once again within range of taking a stage win. She outsprinted Marta Bastianelli and Lotte Kopecky to take her second of the race.
"I didn't feel any wind until the last two hundred metres. I saw from the corner of my eye that Elisa Balsamo accelerated simultaneously, but I felt I had more speed," she detailed the sprint. "Although I had no acceleration left in my legs, I hoped my punch would be enough. Luckily I was able to finish off the team's work."
Into the mountains tomorrow it will be a very tough challenge for Vos to keep her lead of the race, however with the lead of both overall and points classifications aswell as two stages, the Jumbo-Visma rider has had her fair share of success.
