Lorena Wiebes crashes out of final opportunity to win at Tour de France Femmes

Lorena Wiebes has taken no less than 17 wins already this season, however today the opportunity to grab an 18th slipped between her fingers as she crashed out of contention in the sixth - and final sprint opportunity - stage of the Tour de France Femmes.

Wiebes crashed with 24 kilometers to go on stage six of the Tour heading into Rosheim whilst she was inserted in the peloton and within range of taking a third stage win. She hit the ground alongside the likes of Lotte Kopecky, however unlike the Belgian she did not manage to recover back into the peloton. She suffered road rash and stitches on her right elbow after having a severe wound, however finished the stage and is being monitored overnight for her injuries.

Wiebes finished the day over seven minutes down on stage winner Marianne Vos, and whether she will conclude the race or not is to be seen in the coming days as the race heads into the mountains where the favourites will change.
