Lennard Kämna came very close to winning his second stage in the Vuelta a España 2023. The German rider caught up to the two leading men, Rui Costa and Santiago Buitrago, in the final kilometers of the Lekunberri stage and on the final descent he went for the win like lightning. However, he fell, which prevented him from having the strength to beat Costa in the final volley:
"I had a good chance, I had a small lead, but I did something very stupid, I took the corner too fast and halfway through the corner I was like 'oh, shit, I can't do it', so I tried to control it as best I could, but after that I had some chance to win, something that surprised me, but there I lost my big chance."
Kämna managed to leave Remco Evenepoel and the rest of his teammates behind to get to Rui Costa and Buitrago, but he couldn't finish winning: "Yes, I think I did well and I could get to them, I felt really good, but I couldn't make it;
