Tadej Pogacar has endured one of the worst crashes of his career this Sunday at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which has sidelined him from competition for the time being. It shouldn't affect his racing calendar but has taken him out of the final spring classic, but the Slovenian remains in good spirits.
"Taking some time off to enjoy the little things in life. Not thinking about bike or the rehab yet, but maybe this changes when Urška (Zigart, his partner, ed.) leaves for La Vuelta," Pogacar said in an Instagram post, already back home in Monaco. "Drop me some good movies and series in the comments, because I can’t even play Fifa," he joked.
Pogacar was said to be initially out for five to six weeks, with opinions varying between that time and three weeks at best. However it is not specific how much time he will be off the bike, since it is expected that he will resume riding on the rollers in the coming days, and later in May he will be travelling to an altitude camp with UAE Team Emirates according to team sports manager Joxean Matxin.
He will be skipping recons of the Tour de France and an air tunnel session that was initially planned ahead of the Grand Boucle, but the big picture remains solid. The Tour de France goal remains the same and the UAE Team Emirates rider is set to race his home Tour of Slovenia as the racing block ahead of it.
