General classification leader Mattias Skjelmose put his men in the lead from kilometer zero in the seventh stage of the Tour of Suisse. Trek - Segafredo imposed the pace until the final 25 km where there was at least some action.
"I am proud that our team set the pace for how the race should go. The other riders respected this throughout the ride. I am very proud that we were able to do something like this," the Dane told Eurosport. "Although it was a special day, the first time back to racing after the tragedy."
Skjelmose can crown himself the overall winner of the Tour de Suisse tomorrow. "Normally I have to be able to finish it. I'm not sure, it will depend on the legs. I felt good in the prologue and worked a lot with the time trial bike. Moreover, the course also suits me: it reminds me of the circuit in Luxembourg, where I won last year."
