Filippo Zana loses Tour of Slovenia stage win in a crash but takes overall lead

Filippo Zana was on the verge of winning the fourth stage of Tour of Slovenia. However, the Italian champion went down in the final descent from Kolovrat. Luckily for Zana, the fall doesn't seem to have had any consequences on the 25-year old rider.

"I am happy that David won for Team Jayco AlUla today. I also wanted to win to dedicate the victory to Gino. It’s a very sad moment for cycling, all of us are sad and it’s not easy to race during these days. All our thoughts are for him in every moment," Zana said in the team's press release.

Team Jayco AlUla played their cards perfectly today, with Zana going clear on the climb and his teammate Jesus David Peña shaking of all the competitors as well, the team was heading for an easy 1-2 double.

However, in the same place where Peña crashed in previous descend from climb, Zana went down as well, and lost his lead. The Italian quickly hopped on his bike again and caught up to the second group from which, he was the fastest in the final, making it 1-2 for his team in different order. Zana also becomes the overall leader of the race.
