Henri Vandenabeele "these are not my best days," after abandoning Critérium du Dauphiné

Henri Vandenabeele had to abandon after 120 kilometers in the second stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The reason is the after-effects of a Covid-19 infection, the 22-year-old Vandenabeele told WielerFlits.

"I've been struggling for a few weeks now, Saturday I found out that I just went through a corona variant. We still wanted to try the Dauphiné, looking at it day by day. But it really didn't go today," he said.

"On top of that, I'm suffering from a pollen allergy. So these are not my best days," said the young climber, who already excelled in his first professional year with a ninth place in the Tour of Oman and a tenth in the Tour of Turkey.

The Tour de France will then be out of the possibilities, however the Belgian is likely to be focusing on racing later in the season where he will be looking to get his first pro win.
