Michael Woods is known as perhaps the ultimate specialist in murito finishes and he has confirmed his potential by taking a dominant win today at the brutal Mirador do Ézaro, on Gran Camino's second stage.
Israel - Premier Tech and Movistar controlled the day in which they had the main favourites and took the head of the peloton on the approach to the final climb where positioning would be crucial. This stage was all about the ascent and Movistar have entered in front in perfect position after a strong leadout, Gonzalo Serrano led the peloton throughout it's initial slopes but on the famous 29% ramp Michael Woods took the head of the peloton and got some vital meters.
Iván Sosa and Alejandro Valverde set chasing after that section but in these gradients there was no benefit for riding in the wheel, the Israel - Premier Tech rider flew up the final kilometer extending his gap on Alejandro Valverde who tried to shut down the gap in the final meters but lost 16 seconds. Cofidis' Rubén Fernández finished third 37 seconds down.
