The GP de Denain is frequently a race for the classics riders to thrive on, however this year a Colombian sprinter as taken the win, as Juan Sebastián Molano put on a strong performance to win the race.
The race featured an eight-rider breakaway which made the race hard as it was difficult to bring them back. As the riders went through the many cobbled sectors of northern France the peloton had many attacks and splits.

A group containing Mikkel Bjerg, Juan Sebastián Molano, Tim van Dijke, Timo Kielich, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Taco van der Hoorn went up the road in the final sectors, with the latter then being dropped. The five-riders group then kept riding together in front in order to hold out the reduced peloton which looked to bridge the gap.
A sprint was to decide the race, with Bjerg sacrificing his chances in order to keep the group united. Juan Sebastián Molano w as the big favourite, and he took a dominant win in the final sprint. Van Dijke and Kielich completed the podium, as riders reached the finish in small groups behind.
