Gino Mäder succumbs to dehydration and gastrointestinal at Tour de Suisse

Bahrain - Victorious have this morning announced the departure from the Tour de Suisse from two of it's main riders, Gino Mäder and Hermann Pernsteiner who were expected to play a big role in the mountainous stages.
Mäder had been hinted as one of the big favourites for the race, and he himself said this was was "the highlight of my season". He had visibly struggled throughout the opening stages, being dropped from the GC group on several occasions, and it has been confirmed that the heat caused serious difficulties to the Swiss climber.
His teammate Hermann Pernsteiner, who alongside Mäder is scheduled to be at the Tour de France, has also pulled the plug on his race. Bahrain - Victorious remain in the yellow jersey as Stephen Williams remains solid in the position he's obtained on the first day, but the Briton will now have virtually no support entering the most complicated stages of the race.

My bike is slow, my legs are slow, I'm so much slower than I once was, and I love every moment of being out on 2 wheels. My enjoyment of the sport has nothing to do with how good the pros are. Any athlete treating this remotely like an amateur sport (in terms of weight training, nutrition, lack of altitude camps, and so on) will not succeed. Sky, then Jumbo Visma, then UAE, made the sport more precise, more focused, and harder to win. That's what the pro in professional means, doesn't it?RidesHills01-05-2025
- MSR no competition? From the Cipressa onward, that was the most amazing MSR finish I've ever watched! Same with Paris-Roubaix, which together with Flanders had the racing start much, much earlier than before. - He and Pogacar both have taken insane risks on descents, particularly in time trials. I have to imagine most cycling fans would be happy to see them back off a bit.
