One of the great medal hopes for Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be Oier Lazkano. The Movistar Team rider will participate both in the men's time trial, solo, and in the road cycling, alongside Alex Aranburu and Juan Ayuso.
The first of them will be the individual time trial, to be held next Saturday, July 27, and where Lazkano arrives as a replacement for Ayuso, who caught COVID during the Tour de France 2024 and the Federation decided to replace him with the rider from Alava, who will arrive in better shape to a brutal fight where the favorites will be, mainly; Remco Evenepoel, Joshua Tarling and Filippo Ganna.
Speaking to the official account of the Real Federación Española de Ciclismo, Oier Lazkano talks about the keys to make a good time trial and to aim for a great result for his country: "It's a very fast course, as it has only 3 or 4 technical turns. The rest is just to give it to yourself. As it's a very fast time trial, aerodynamics will be very important, getting to the necessary watts and keeping them stable."
Eager for Tour de France revenge
Lazkano arrives at the Olympic Games with the desire to achieve a great result that he missed in the Tour de France, and it wasn't because he didn't try. After the race, the data showed that the rider from Alava was the third rider who spent the most time at the head of the race in the Grande Boucle, after Jonas Abrahamsen and Richard Carapaz, after starring in many of the breakaways that occurred during the three weeks. Only bad luck was peloton that was always accelerated with either UAE Team Emirates or Team Visma | Lease a Bike ending the chances of a victory.
After an exhausting Tour, Oier Lazkano needed a few days of rest before training for the Olympic time trial. About it, the 24-year-old rider says that it was a bit strange to get back to work, but he is sure that everything will be fine: "I'm fine, a bit strange because it's the first time I've been on the bike since the Tour. Today I have another training session and I'm sure it will go better than the last one".
