Although he may have been edged out in the final 100m or so by
Primoz Roglic,
Geraint Thomas will go into the decisive stage 20 time-trial with a 26-second lead on the Slovenian. Teammate
Thymen Arensman is confident Thomas will get the job done.
“Geraint has done very well. That is good and good for tomorrow,” said the 23-year-old Dutchman in his post-stage interview. "I can't speak for G whether he is happy, but if you go into the time trial with a lead it is always better than if you start it with a disadvantage."
Thomas made a late move to try and pinch a few seconds and initially put Roglic into difficulty. As the Jumbo-Visma leader recovered though, Thomas actually ended up losing three seconds of the 29 second lead he started the day with.
“I felt really good. Laurens De Plus was also super strong today. Ben Swift had some issues, but Salvatore Puccio was super strong. He was super impressive. I was then able to do one last turn for Geraint,” says Arensman who will have his own top 10 position to defend. “It will be an interesting and tough time trial. I am certainly looking forward to that”
