Three days ago,
Remco Evenepoel had been back in Spain, preparing for the
Itzulia Basque Country. The Belgian champion had just completed a training at a race pace, yet the hardest challenge was only awaiting at the counter of local store.
The Belgian needed to refill some of his materials or supplies, however he found himself with no money nor credit card. Luckily for the
Soudal - Quick-Step rider, four gentlemen arrived to his rescue.
Evenepoel is now making a 'small appeal via Strava to the four men who helped me out of financial need at the shop in Castells: you can come and have a drink at my expense in the REV shop in Schepdaal'. Judging from that gesture and the language in which Evenepoel made the appeal, it must have been Belgians who came to his aid.
Clickbait!
"he found himself with no money nor credit card"
So he didn't notice this before he went into the shop?
Never go out for a ride with no money!
Huh? Why, will that get you arrested? Been doing that for over 30 years and never had a problem, never needed a shop either.
And if you start with money, why not a phone, a pepper spray, a spare tire, a pump, ID, healthcare card, donor card, next of kin info, blood card, some spare clothes (imagine you rip your outfit landing on your butt in a crash are you going to hang around baring your ass and maybe more to all?).
Have you got lights, reflectors and a bell on your bike, did you update on your highway code, check your heart rate and blood pressure, told someone the route you’re taking plus an ETA, etc.
You never know, best be prepared, money doesn’t buy everything.
I (somehow) broke a front spoke while riding a week a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't ride home. I ended up having to call a taxi. It's a good thing that I was carrying money with me.
Haha! Sarcasm😂
