The Movistar Team has a clear leader for the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España in Enric Mas and in the Giro d'Italia it's up to Fernando Gaviria. Until now, we were unaware of the intentions of the telephone team beyond the fact that they were going to give Fernando Gaviria prominence in the Grand Tours.
The sports director Patxi Vila has spoken with his colleagues from A pie de Puerto and, among other topics, has talked about the great evolution they have seen in the young Colombian talent Einer Rubio, to whom they intend to give him an alternative in the Corsa Rosa.
"In the first race of the year we have seen an Einer who has already finished fourth in San Juan, who already did very good things last year, we dedicated ourselves to giving him opportunities in one-week laps to make him grow, which I think he did and now we believe that he is already prepared a bit, but to see where he arrives. We are not going to demand that he do a general, we are going to go calmly, day by day. He is taking very interesting steps," he said.
Thus, taking into account that Movistar will not bring a clear leader to the Giro, Vila explained that they are confident that Einer can do a good job, either holding up with those in the general classification (without any pressure or demand) or fighting in stages: "In the absence of a clear leader for the Giro, we will go with him, but without any pressure. He will be in the Giro. We'll see. If the general is too hard for him and we go in stages or if he looks eager and strength and continue. It would not be fair to demand something from Einer Rubio in a general of the Giro d'Italia".
On the other hand, most of the team will be focused on Fernando Gaviria and that he can get several stage wins: "We'll see if we can get a few stage wins with Fernando and we'll bring people to help him out in the finals."
