Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team are aiming high at the BEMER Cyclassics where the field will be very strong, and they will be led by newly-crowned European champion Fabio Jakobsen.
The Dutchman will have his new equipment revealed in competition today in Germany, the first of three events Jakobsen is set to ride - with the upcoming Deutschland Tour part of his schedule too. Although having some small ascents, the course will be a good fit for Jakobsen, who comes in with high form and ambitions, specially with the team that will be backing him up.
“It’s been three years since we last raced in Hamburg and we are glad to be back at this nice race. The course is basically the same, with the same challenges in the final part, but on paper it should come down to a bunch sprint," Team DS Tom Steels said in a press release. "Fabio has shown his form in Munich, we can’t wait to see him for the first time in the European Champion jersey, and he will have a good team around him".
That will consist of his two leadout men Florian Sénéchal and Yves Lampaert, but the leadout should also include Davide Ballerini as a key piece if the team is able to have all their cards in for a final sprint. Stijn Steels will likely be controling the peloton throughout the day, whilst Bert van Lerberghe and Stan van Tricht bring in extra firepower for the long flat sections that will await the riders.
