Stage 6 of Vuelta a San Juan besides the last kilometers with the fight for the sprint would have been a stage that didn't have much in it. But it had, for the negative reasons. INEOS-Grenadiers rider Egan Bernal was forced to quit the race during the early moments of the course due to knee problems.
The Colombian had suffered a crash at the inaugural stage of the race. Despite continuing the race, the crash left him with some knee pains according to the team and in today's stage it was decided to drop out from the competition.
The Colombian despite the injury had been doing a positive performance in Vuelta a San Juan. He made a daring attack move in Stage 4 and finished 4th in the mountain and queen stage of the completion the stage 5 of Alto de Colorado. He managed to climb with the best and only Miguel Angel Lopez and his teammate Filippo Ganna were definitely better than him.
He was expected to finish in the 4th place of the general classification and clear some doubts about his condition post last season accident. But now with this knee problems new doubts might emerge on Bernal, although there is the possibility that it was only a preventive measure and that Bernal will appear even stronger on the next race he will go.
