Dylan Groenewegen wins Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic for the fifth time - "It is good to win again ahead of Tour de France"

Dylan Groenewegen took a very impressive victory at Veenendaal-Veenendaal Classic, making this his fifth triumph at the Dutch one-day race already.

In the last kilometre, the sprinter was dropped off perfectly into the Alpecin-Deceuninck train. “I was in perfect position. I'm missing my regular leadout Luka Mezgec today because he's on altitude training, so I asked the team to put me in good position before the last corner. They did really well, I am very grateful to the team,” said Groenewegen after the race.

For Groenewegen, however, winning in his home race was not a piece of cake. “I didn't have good legs this morning. It wasn't an easy race either. Because of the wind it was very hectic and it was wringing. Mentally it was quite tough, but I'm glad I was able to win here. It is one of the few professional races in the Netherlands," he said.

The 29-year-old rider took his fourth victory of the 2023 season. “It is good to win again ahead of Tour de France. It is always a chaotic period of the season. Teammates are on altitude trainings at different times, but I chose to start here. Hopefully I can return in a year for my sixth,” Groenewegen concluded.
