Dylan Groenewegen was close to winning the second stage of
Tour de Hongrie. In the final meters, the Dutchman showed some fast legs and nearly overtook the well-positioned Mark Cavendish.
"The team did a great job today, and the boys did what they could. We know that without Campbell Stewart, who crashed yesterday and had to stop, we missed a guy for the last kilometer. It meant I had to fight a bit too much in the wind and I was missing the fresh legs in the last 200 metres, but we know that the big goal is this summer and we are going in a good direction," Groenewegen said in a press release.
The Jayco AlUla's riders actions in the penultimate kilometer may have escaped the eye of jury, but many fans pointed out that Groenewegen's behaviour, when he quite literally shouldered race leader Sam Welsford out of Cavendish's wheel, was at the very least dangerous. 'Luckily', the Australian took a mechanical before their little skirmish could've escalated.
