Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale fires Franck Bonnamour following violation of anti-doping rules

Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale have been surprised recently with a suspension of Franck Bonnamour from the UCI as the Frenchman began to be investigated over a doping violation. Although reportedly the World Tour team has nothing to do with the situation, it has now terminated Bonnamour's contract.

"On 5th of February 2024, the team was informed by the Union Cycliste Internationale of the investigation and temporarily suspension of Franck Bonnamour due to a violation of the anti-doping rules. This suspension follows tests carried out before he joined the team on the 1st of January 2023," the team issued in a statement.

Bonnamour raced for B&B Hotels-KTM in the 2021 and 2022 seasons after joining from Arkéa Samsic and it is believed that within that time frame the 28-year old committed a violation of the rules. It is not clear the exact details. He was temporarily suspended as the investigation is ongoing, but now ultimately the World Tour outfit has decided to end the contract as no positive feedback emerges.

"The team has been forced to terminate Franck Bonnamour's employment contract early. The DECATHLON AG2R LA MONDIALE team advocates the practice of cycling in accordance with stringent ethical rules," the team affirmed.
