Davide Rebellin's passing caused by truck impact, autopsy confirms

Davide Rebellin's tragedy was one of, if not the biggest tragedy in the cycling world this year, and recently the autopsy on the Italian rider has confirmed that the death was due to the impact of the truck accident.

The 51-year old's autopsy revealed there there were no underlying medical conditions that could've caused the death, and so that the truck accident was the cause. Rebellin was hit by a truck whilst out training near his home in Vicenza, Italy, just weeks after retiring from pro cycling after a 30-year long career which seen him accomplish countless success including winning all three Ardennes classics in a year.

He was at the time hit by a driver who did not see him, and the injuries caused an immediate death. The owner of the truck reportedly left the truck and returned before driving away and escaped to Germany, however he has since been identified.

Rebellin's funeral will be held in the Lonigo cathedral this Friday at 10am and will be open for anyone who wants to say their last goodbye to an icon of Italian cycling.
