Team Visma - Lease a Bike continues to plan a 2024 season in which, in addition to trying to win the Tour de France again with Jonas Vingegaard, they have set themselves the goal of winning a Monument, something they have failed to achieve in recent years despite the countless victories they have accumulated.
So, with Wout van Aert with the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix as his main objectives, this time he is stepping down from trying to win the Milano-Sanremo and, according to our colleague Lukáš Ronald, the leader of the Dutch squad for the Classicissima will be the French Christophe Laporte
It must be said that his best performance in Sanremo have been to finish twice in 13th position, both in 2018 and last year. Mind you, in 2023 racing to support his leader Wout van Aert, who could not fight with an untouchable Mathieu van der Poel who was far superior in the end.
Laporte's classics campaign was fantastic, finishing third in the Omloop and winning both Gent-Wevelgem and Dwars door Vlaanderen, as well as finishing Roubaix in tenth place. We'll see if Laporte has chances for a top 5 in Sanremo, we don't think he can aspire to the podium considering that the race is being decided on the Poggio in recent years and there are riders like van der Poel or Tadej Pogacar who are doing a lot of damage there.
